Get twinned with a class from South Africa

We put Danish school children of all age groups in touch with school children from other parts of the world. We are starting with South Africa.

Being twinned with a class from another culture will give your pupils first-hand stories of life from a child's point of view on the other side of the world where daily life is very different from their own.

This will give your pupils very real and meaningful new knowledge which can help to strengthen global understanding and tolerance between different cultures. Pupils will also have the chance to make friends for life from a distant culture.

Educational opportunities provided by twinning

You can use the twinning programme for exciting activities both within and outside the mandatory curriculum:

• Essay subjects in Danish or English (e.g. describe a typical day in your life)
• Pupils will practise reading, writing and speaking English
• Pupils will practise communicating Danish history and culture to others and thereby learn themselves
• For courses on the eating and drinking habits found in other cultures:
           - What do you eat during the day?
           - Do you eat at school?
           - Do you drink school milk? How often? When?
           - What is your favourite food?

• For discussions and courses on belief and religion
• For courses about the natural sciences
• For discussions and courses about global understanding, climate, etc.

Write, Skype or publish e.g. a newspaper

The children could e.g. exchange letters and e-mails about their experiences and everyday lives. It does not need to be much more ambitious than that. The children could also publish a newspaper about their own country, classes or families.

If you would like to use and have the facilities for using new media, you could

• produce small videos
• record sound files
• set up a webcam in the classroom if the class you are twinned with has Internet access
• Skype if the class you are twinned with has Internet access.
